Grandparent Rights
Grandparents may be awarded visitation if the grandparent has maintained a relationship with the child similar to the parent-child relationship. In determining visitation issues, the court considers the best interests of the child. The law is designed to protect relationships that are important to the child's well being. Using this same standard, if one of the child's parents is deceased, the grandparent may be awarded visitation if the court determines it is in the child's best interests.
